Warzone new map – when is the nuke event in Warzone?

Want to know more about the new Warzone map? It looks like Verdansk, Warzone’s first large-scale map is finally coming to an end when Season 2 finishes in April. Hardcore players know all about the nukes hidden within the Warzone bunkers, but they haven’t been used since they were introduced to the battle royale game. Judging by the latest rumours, the nukes may be the key to Verdansk’s revamp.

Raven Software and Infinity Ward, the game’s developers, have made an effort to tie together the stories from the Cold War campaign, Zombies, and Warzone. Verdansk is based on Modern Warfare’s campaign and is currently 37 years ahead of the Cold War timeline. There is a chance the next Warzone map will take players back in time to sync up all three modes.

The Season 2 Reloaded update didn’t bring much to Warzone other than a few balance changes despite the file size being over 50GB. It looks like the latest update has been data mined, revealing plenty of new information about the new map. Here’s everything we know about the new Warzone map so far.

Operation Rapid Sunder is the name of the upcoming Warzone nuke event – this event takes on April 21 at 12pm PDT / 3pm EDT / 8pm BST. The Warzone Season 3 update launches a few hours later on April 21 at 9pm PDT, or April 22 at midnight EDT / 5am BST.

After the Outbreak event ended in early March, players expected big things to transpire on Verdansk. Instead, the zombies that were confined to the Shipwreck have made their way to the prison. Throughout Season 2 the zombies have been slowly making their way through Verdansk, but only at one location at a time.

The Call of Duty team have sent various content creators a hat with the following message: “Once the hostiles reach ere, we levee a guess that Verdansk is all but gone to the damned. April 21 12pm.” This all but confirms the last location the zombies will attend is the Dam.

This latest clip from Call of Duty leaker ModernWarzone gives us a glimpse of what the nuke event is going to look like. It looks like the nuke event will take place in the middle of a match – large missiles descend from the sky before plummeting into the ground. Though this was just a visual bug, we fully expect this to be the animation that plays when the nuke event does occur later this month.

The zombie machines dotted around Verdansk have reached 100%, introducing a brand new mechanic to the game. Players can head towards the radiation zones in Shipwreck and Prison to become a zombie.

The datamined leaks have revealed that Verdansk isn’t going to be replaced with a completely different map, instead it’s going to be transported back 40 years to the 1980s. Some of Verdansk’s iconic locations have been completely transformed – the Stadium is now partially constructed, the Dam has been replaced by an aqueduct, and so on.

As Verdansk is based on the maps in Modern Warfare, fans are expecting the next Warzone map to be designed around historic Black Ops levels. ModernWarzone has stated that Zoo from Black Ops is likely to make an appearance on the new Warzone map.

Once the new map is introduced in April, it’s unlikely the original Verdansk will be playable for some time. Warzone allows players to pick between the small-scale Rebirth Island map and the larger Verdansk map depending on what type of experience players want to have. There’s no reason why the devs couldn’t have both maps running in separate playlists, but this might shift attention away from Black Ops Cold War. Modern Verdansk could make a return in the future, but only when the next Modern Warfare game launches.
